Traditionally farming has been the main source of income in Luster, especially meat- and milk production. Though decreasing, farming is still important. Luster is the main supplier of mutton in the county Sogn og Fjordane. Strawberry and raspberry farming has good conditions in the Luster climate, and has become very important. Luster is today one of the main suppliers in the country.
The nature in Luster is very attractive to travelers. The Travel industry is important, with hotels, guest houses, campsites and cabins. Good activity companies with outdoor exploration on glaciers and mountains in the many National Parks have made the nature easier accessible for most travelers.
Hydropower production started early in Luster, and the total production from Statkraft Energi plants and Hydro Energi plants is today more than 720 MW from plants in Jostedal and Fortun.
In Gaupne there are several industrial and service related companies. The biggest private company in Luster is Avery Denison NTP AS, developing and producing transfers for the clothing industry worldwide.
LMI is another large company in Luster. LMI was etablished in the beginning of the 80`s and has carried out considerable prefabrication contracts for the offshore industry. The company has specialised in prefabrication of pipes and pipesystems, flowlines and transportpipes in all available dimensions and qualities. The facilities that LMI has the disposal of is well equipped and cover over 2000 square metres. Our employees are highly qualified, such as certified welders-, NDE-operators and skilled production workers.
Shopping and Service center Pyramiden in Gaupne was opened in August 1985 as the first shopping center in the county.
Since then, there has been an expansion and today we have a building of 6,000 sqm.
